The Sunday Sip: Fill Up Your Cup With Jamie at Laughter Ever After

It’s time for The Sunday Sip.

This is our 7th week bringing you bloggers worth getting to know better.  We absolutely L-O-V-E this feature and we hope that you do too! It gives us a chance to make new friends in the blogosphere. Janene and I have a spot in our hearts for each of our Sunday Sip bloggers–each has her own voice and story to tell and we love hearing it! If you’d like to get to know our previous feature bloggers, check them out here!

If you are interested in being featured in one of our Sunday posts, don’t be shy! Drop us a quick email and let us know. We would love to be introduced to your blog and introduce you to our readers.  We hope to hear from you today!

This week we are featuring Jamie at Laughter Ever After

Jamie has been on vacation this week…so she is sending her answers to us from the beach…sigh…I’m trying not to be super envious! :)

What are you drinking this morning, Jamie?

I’m drinking flavored creamer with a little bit of coffee. Ha! Jake always makes fun of how I doctor up my morning brew, but I like my coffee like I like my life: sweet and easy to swallow. This morning, I have the added benefit of sipping my coffee while looking at the Atlantic Ocean. (Coffee tastes way better at the beach on vacation, I’ve learned ;))

So tell us a little bit about yourself:

Jamie Dickson: wife, mama and writer at Laughter Ever After. I used to write professionally until I decided to play at home with Owen (although I quickly learned that most of the time it’s less play and more work)!

Laughter Ever After–there’s a hint of fairy tale magic in that name that I love. How did you come up with the title of your blog?

My manly husband, Jake, surprisingly came up with it. My blog used to be titled “Two Blue Lines” after the positive pregnancy test I saw nearly two (two?!) years ago. When I had my site redesigned I wanted a title that would have longevity, but was having a major creative block. Jake came to the rescue, but afterwards ran off to hunt or fish or exercise – whatever men do to reclaim their manliness. 😉 I really like the title because it reminds me to find the humor in life. Jake did good.

Sometimes when we are writing a post something in it just resonates with us. I find that when I get out a post like that I read it over and over and over again. What is one post that you’ve written that resonates with you?

I recently wrote a post about how moms and women in general just need to stop judging each other. If it bores you, I talk about cupcakes, too. Something for everyone! I wrote the post because, for nearly a year, I wanted to share my struggles with breastfeeding and the judgement I felt from some other moms when I finally packed up the nursing bras. But, whenever I sat down to write it, I always felt like I was whining. Finally, over a year after I stopped breastfeeding, I found inspiration in the recent rehash of the SAHM vs. working mom debate and decided that instead of talking exclusively about breastfeeding I would write about the mommy wars in general. Ugh. So over the mommy wars.

Right now we see your blog as a place to read more about your family life and adventures. What a sweet little family you have! I love the reading list you share on your blog…Janene and I are both avid readers and we are always looking for ways to spread that love to our little ones. I know you started blogging during your pregnancy and your blog has morphed into a place where you can share your day to day life with friends and family and readers like us!

Thanks! I love reading, too, which is why I want to pass that love onto my son, Owen. (The other day he ran to me with a book and said “BOOK.” He wouldn’t let me continue what I was doing until I read it to him. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, right?!

As for the blog, I would be totally lying if I didn’t occasionally dream of it going big one day. That said, I know it takes a lot of work, but so does raising a little boy, so for now I just hope to share my life with anyone who cares to read about it. Eventually I’d love to be the next Katie Brown or, dare I say it, Ree Drummond, but for now I’ll settle for micro-blogger Jamie Dickson.

Finally, what makes you “More than a Mommy”?

I knew you’d ask me that, and to be honest, I’m still figuring that out! My son just turned 15 months old, and for the first year of his life I was consumed with the mom thing (particularly getting him to nap! Can I get an amen??) I’m still trying to figure it all out (and probably will for all eternity) but I am finally at a point where I can do other stuff, too, like read a book in less than 6 months and actually cook the pretty meals I see on Pinterest. I also have dreams of being a runner, but something about being out of breath is just off-putting. 😉

Amen, Jamie!  We are all just figuring it out together. Thanks for sharing your corner of the blogosphere with us! Enjoy the rest of your vacation!
