An Unexpected Surprise: The Liebster Award

This Tuesday we were nominated for the Liebster Award by Crystal at Thrifty Chick 28. What an unexpected and pleasant surprise!

So WHAT is the Liebster?

The Liebster Award is an award given by bloggers for bloggers who have less than 200 followers. It seems we just make the cut. Perhaps after our nomination we can welcome more of you to our little corner of the web.  The Liebster is a great way for little blogs to receive recognition that they deserve. Any one who blogs knows that there is time, talent, and perhaps a few tears needed to make it a success. Big bloggers know this and small ones know it too. We are all working really, really hard. Sure it can be fun, exhilarating at times. Blogging is enjoyable but it is also time consuming. People in the “real world” sometimes look at bloggers like they might be crazy. Well if we are crazy–at least we can be crazy together!  I’m excited to present this award to some spectacular blogs today.
There are some rules. But they aren’t the hard-to-follow kind:
Each nominee must share 11 things about themselves.
They must also answer 11 questions asked by the person who tagged them.
They must create 11 questions for the bloggers they choose to nominate.
They need to select 11 blogs with less than 200 followers to nominate.
And they need to tell the lucky bloggers they choose about their nomination.
There are no Tag Backs–It is a great way to get to know other bloggers. I can’t wait to visit my nominee’s blogs to see who they choose to nominate.

So here we go…

I’ll Share:

  1. I am the oldest among my siblings, but I am also the shortest at 5’1″. I remember being called “cute” a lot as a teen.  Teenagers don’t want to be called “cute.” I’m going to try to remember that when I have teenagers. I guess I equate “cuteness” with “youth.”  So now, it’s completely acceptable to tell me to that I’m cute. *wink wink*
  2. I am perfectly content eating the same exact meals for breakfast and lunch for days and days on end, but I like a little variety in my dinner.
  3. It’s been a dream of mine to write a book. But alas, it’s nothing but dreams to this point.
  4. I’ve always wanted to learn to play a musical instrument. Dreams do come true. I started to take guitar lessons about 2 months ago. I love it!
  5. My favorite color is BLUE.
  6. When I learn something new I get very excited and immediately want to share it with the rest of the world.
  7. I am forgiving, patient, and a good listener. I am not a grudge holder
  8. I probably talk to myself more than is normal.
  9. I rely heavily on my husband to boost the logical side of my brain. I am most definitely Right-Brained
  10. I hated Spaghetti as a child. I like it now!
  11. I do not and have never ever once dyed my hair–not even highlights. (I’m not against it, but I probably won’t until I start to go gray.)
Here are my Answers:
What did you want to be when you were younger? I wanted to be a singer and actress.
Besides blogging, what are your favorite hobbies? I love to read. I enjoy drawing, singing, and now playing the guitar. And writing in general.
If you could meet anyone in the world who would it be? Hmmm. In the world now? To be honest, I’m not very good at meeting people. I feel very awkward in new social situations! No one really comes to mind because the only thing I’m thinking about right now is the nervousness that I feel when I meet someone new.
One thing off your bucket list is? I already mentioned that I want to write a book and I wanted to learn to play a musical instrument. But another that I would like to cross off soon is to visit NYC.
What is your favorite quote? I don’t have a favorite here either. I love words. So many quotes are inspiring. I’ve got a pinterest board dedicated to Quotables and things that make my heart happy (including some beautiful, funny, and inspiring words).

Who inspires you the most? My children.  They are so full of wonder and have helped me recapture my own. They make me laugh on a daily basis. They are always fodder for my funniest stories. And as much as I am teaching them, they are also teaching me.
If money was no option where would you go? I don’t think I would stay still. I would travel the world. Visit all 50 States and then just keep going. The Earth is such a big and beautiful place you would never run out of places to see.
What TV show can you secretly not live with out? I have quite a few must sees, but none that I couldn’t live without.  I think I could turn off the television one day and never turn it on again as long as I had some books around me–or some blogs to read! But here’s a short list of shows that the hubs and I enjoy together (some are most definitely guilty pleasures): The Walking Dead, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, The Newsroom, Homeland, Modern Family, The MTV Challenges, Jersey Shore, American Horror Story, Big Brother.
What is your favorite scent? I love the perfume of lilacs and I also really love the smell of campfire.
What is an item that you bought on a whim but then wished you didn’t afterwards? After we moved into our second home we needed to get a new dining room table. We ended up buying the table and an entire suite of living room furniture. As we were driving home my husband and I both regretted it and knew that we probably should not have done it. Within the week we got a letter from the company saying that they had filed for Chapter 11 and that they would deliver our dining room table because it was in stock, but they wouldn’t be able to send our living room furniture. Crisis averted!
If you could learn another language what would it be? I have a very good friend who is from Aruba and her native language is called Papiemento, which is a combination of Dutch and Spanish, I am told. Anyway, I would love to learn it and speak with her in her native tongue.
Here are the questions that I have been asked to create:
  1. What is your favorite color?
  2. What made you decide to start blogging?
  3. If you were forced to loose one of your five senses: Taste, Touch, Sight, Hearing, Smelling, which would you choose and why?
  4. Do you have a bad habit? What is it?
  5. When was the last time you laughed? What were you laughing at?
  6. If you had to relive a period of time in your life, what would you relive?
  7. Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
  8. What was your favorite subject in school?
  9. If money was no object, name something you would splurge on for YOURSELF.
  10. Cats? Dogs? Both? Neither?
  11. You’ve been given a crystal ball: what will you be up to 10 years from now?
The nominees that I have selected for the Liebster Award are:
