If you follow us on social media, you know that on the heels of one of our biggest giveaways ever, Janene and I packed up our families and rolled west to Columbus, OH*. We snapped tons of pics along the way (#MTMcolumbus) but most of all enjoyed time with our family exploring a city that, at first glance, might not be on our Top Vacation Destinations List.
There’s more than meets the eye in this fantastic little city though and we’ve created a More Than Mommies Approved Itinerary of Columbus Destinations that you can use to make the most of a weekend away exploring Columbus. We give the Roar and Explore Package two thumbs up and our families do too (that’s 24 thumbs, people!)! Want to go? You can purchase the same package that we enjoyed starting at $411 for a family of four at Columbus Family Fun. Once your trip is booked, head over Experience Columbus for more travel tools for planning your weekend away.
Before you go, we’ll give you an inside look at our weekend–and see exactly why we loved it so much:
I know it seems like a lot to take in, there is so much to do in the city. More than once on our trip, my husband and I looked at each other and said, lets come back so we can do more–maybe minus the little ones. Okay, they were perfect angels on this trip. The kids were so excited and agreeable to everything we did and just rolled from one event to the next without a hitch, BUT the hubs and I would love to experience the city as grown ups too. Maybe an anniversary trip is in the works.
First off, the trip from Pittsburgh was a breeze! If it weren’t for the kids asking “Are we there yet” every minute, the three and half hour trip would have flown by. It’s the perfect distance for a weekend road trip. We arrived in Columbus around 2pm and our room at The Drury Inn & Suites (Right next to the Convention Center in the heart of downtown) was ready for an early check in. Score! We were happy to see a secure parking garage connected to the hotel with ample parking. And our room on the 7th floor exceeded our expectations. Our family of six found the suite to be clean, spacious and well equipped! Check out Janene’s view from the 8th floor:
Here is another little amenity that caught our eyes in the hotel:
If your hair is longer than one inch, then you know as well as I do that the hotel shampoos do not cut it for an entire weekend for one person, let alone the whole family. It isn’t odd that this is the first thing that I noticed in the bathroom. Right?
Free WiFi? Check. Comfy Bed? Check. Our suite had two TVs — although somehow BOTH of them ended up tuned in to “Full House” at the end of the night. It’s a good thing Uncle Jesse has a killer smile.
After we made ourselves at home we had time to drive over to the Franklin Park Conservatory. I think I have to let the pictures speak for themselves. The place is gorgeous, educational, relaxing, and fun all rolled into one. For us, it was the perfect first spot to visit after our drive from Pittsburgh. Plus we were able to dodge some raindrops and still enjoy the city to the fullest.
I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves here. Beautiful Art:
We enjoyed all there was to see at the conservatory and we were thrilled when we got back to the hotel in time to enjoy the 5:30 Kickback–one of the many perks of staying at The Drury Inn & Suites: Hot foods, FREE adult beverages (three of them per adult!), and a little splash in the pool was just was we needed to recharge:
Cheers! We have so much more to share with you from our weekend in Columbus–this is just round one! Can’t wait to see more? Book your weekend now.
